So I am sitting in my tent over looking the longest river in the world, the 'White Nile', with monkeys jumping from tree to tree and exotic bird chirps slightly drowning out the sound of the biggest rapids I have ever seen.
This section of the Nile that we are on is about 8 km down stream from the source of the Nile, which is lake Victoria. Lake Victoria is a large lake that joins three countries Tanzania, Kenya and the beautiful country Uganda, I happen to be in Uganda.
The paddling on the White Nile is some of the best in the world with no limits to the difficulty you wish to paddle, with rapids named like Dead Dutch Man and Widow Maker it is easy to understand the size, difficulty and possible danger.
As well as coming here to challenge my abilities in the rapids, the main aim has been to train for the upcoming World Championships in Ottawa, Canada. The White Nile produces the best training facility in the world, with a Tropical Climate, Cheap Food, Cheap Camping and the Best Waves in the world not to mention the insanely cool culture and the intense wild life paradise. After three weeks training here there has definitely been a huge improvement. With more complex moves being put together as well as a few combination moves flowing sweetly so I am feeling positive. It has also helped that we have been training with the 3x World Champion and World #2.
The White Nile has defiantly ended up being the ultimate training ground that any one could dream of. I depart for icy Canada on the 17th April and will arrive 10 days prior to World Championships ready to continue on with New Zealand's global domination. Sam.
